Getting to know Kevin and Darla

Other people call it Engagement Photos, I call it “Get to know you” what ever it may be these sessions are one of my favorite things to shoot and Kevin and Darla are a perfect example of why.  Every couple has something unique to them, something that they enjoy as a couple, a funny story of how they met, something they collect (we collect sand!), a hobby, or favorite activity.  Kevin’s first words to Darla was asking her if she was into Martial Arts (maybe not in those exact words but close)…I know pretty funny, especially being that they were at a wedding and complete strangers and there were no visual cues to make him think she would be, but none the less that is what he said.  So anyway, she was not then but apparently Kevin just has that effect on her, as you can see from the photos, she digs it now (and of course she digs Kevin too).  My first thought when they showed me the samurai sword and what appeard to be a stick (escrima stick, bo staff, somthing along those lines) was “how am I going to shoot this so that they look like they love each other, not want to kill each other…” but I think you will agree they did great and I love it because it’s something both different from other engagement photos and special to them!

Mei and David

Mei and David met in an airport so what a perfect idea to replace the flower with an airplane, I just love when couples can put some of their personality into the event!

Just wanted to share our joy and surprise to learn that we have won photo of the week on weddingblogawards.com!  Visit their site to see which photo they have chosen!

A little clue to what photo it may be.  Getting wet to get the shot!

Great angle Dave!  thanks :)

Getting to know Laurie and Stacy!

Laurie and Stacy are to be married this July on Oahu. We just got their save the dates in the mail and they are so cute, but you will have to wait until we post the wedding photos to see them :) They are navy with coral color coral branches and white text.  Laurie and Stacy came out to do their get to know you session with us and we had a wonderful time getting to know each other.  Ironically we ran into each other the following day at her hair and make up trail at the wedding cafe too, such a small world.

Apple a day is what they say!

Going over some older photos that I just never got around to posting… a cute series of the girls eating an apple (well Grace was not really eating it but Brooke let her think so!)
Gimmie!!!!
What is it?
MMMMM….

  Eeew  the slobber!

Dakota aka Bella

Little Bella, wow, it seems like just yesterday I was taking photos of your first breath and here you are ears pierced and crawling around now!  Man how they grow so fast!  I can’t stress enough to parents to take TONS of photos of your little ones, before you know it there not little anymore. Even I feel like I don’t have enough photos of the girls!
I love the middle shot of her amazement with the bobble doll!

Snakes in Hawaii?

Ok so I have posted this a while ago, but for some reason I feel the need to do it again!  Everyone always talks about there not being any snakes in Hawaii right?  WRONG!  There IS in face a snake in Hawaii and I never would have believed it if I didn’t see it.  It’s called the Brahminy Blind Snake (Ramphotyhlops braminus). At first glance this little snake looks just like a worm (only darker), which being on the beach I only thought it appropiate to be dark in color. I thought it was cooking in the sand but low and behold when I went to rescue it, it moved just like a little snake!  Another note of coolness (sorry guys) is that they are all female!  Yep, the lay fertilized eggs without the males to reproduce.  Anyway for more interesting tidbits on Hawaii’s reptlillian life visit EploreBioDiversity.com!

Oh…here is a photo of the little gal :)

Grace is Growing!

So thought I would add a few updated photos of baby Grace… I can’t believe how fast she is growing and changing! One day she finds her hands, then feet, and now she is babbling and rolling over! It’s all moving so much faster than what I remember with Brooklyn. I have to remind myself to stop and enjoy it!

I love this photo of her looking at her hand! It’s like pure amazement!

The torture has begun!!!
